6 Tips to Become a Better Darter

Many novice darts players are eager to improve their skills. Therefore, one of their major questions is ‘how can I become a better darter’. While there is no one-size-fits-all approach to becoming a better darter, there are several common strategies you can rely on. Here are 8 tips to become a better darts player.

1. Don’t Lose Focus

Darts is a game of precision. The main skill it requires is concentration. No matter how physically fit you are, you won’t win at darts because you have muscle. For this reason, it’s important to keep calm and concentrated while playing darts, even on bad days and annoying matches when your opponent seems to enjoy all the advantages.

2. Train Regularly

Just like any other thing you want to do the right way, darts requires regular practice. This applies to all sports. To improve your skills, you need to dedicate more time to the game as nothing bits practice. Try to train daily, at least for a few minutes.

3. Choose More Advanced Opponents

Improving your darts skills has a lot to do with how often you practice. However, it is also extremely important who you practice with. If you only play with darters who are weaker than you, you won’t evolve. Play with stronger opponents, pay careful attention to their technique, and learn as much as you can.

4. Choose the Right Darts

By ‘right’, we don’t mean to imply there are wrong and right darts. Of course, there are cheap poor-quality darts it’s better to avoid. But when we say ‘right darts’ and we refer to decent ones that don’t break in the middle of the game, we mean the darts that are suitable for your style.

To discover which the right darts for your skills are, you need to experiment with different styles. Try darts with a heavy and subtle knurling to see what grp suits you. Then, play with different dart weights to see which one feels better in your hand and is easier to launch. Finally, the flights are also important and quite inexpensive. Try both standard and slim ones of different shapes and choose your favorite. In other words, create the perfect set-up for your throwing style.

5. Find a Good Place to Practice

Ideally, if you’re truly passionate about darts and willing to improve your game, you would get a dartboard at home. However, out of lack of space, or for different other reasons, you might not be able to do this. Don’t worry, not being able to practice at home doesn’t mean you have to give up on your dream of becoming a better player. Find a pub that’s close by where you can practice in the evening. Get a dartboard at work or mount one at your parent’s home. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

6. Participate in Official Competitions

Playing darts at home with buddies or at the pub with strangers is a great way to train. However, as you progress, you should consider going to the next level. This means entering official competitions. Start from the bottom, join a leisure, local contest at first. See how this goes for you and if you feel ready, you can even try your luck in larger national or even international competitions. Playing in official tournaments will allow you to compete against better players and improve your style. Moreover, it will also teach you how to handle pressure and enable you to boost your concentration.

Good luck applying all these tips and don’t forget that we can also help you with strong and reliable darts sets and accessories.
