The Rising Stars of Darts: Five Best Players Under 30

Posted in: Interesting stuff

In last week’s post, we went on a short tour through the PDC’s history. Let’s get back to the present while also looking into the future of our favorite sport as well. Why? To check the best new talents in the darts universe.

Nathan Aspinall, the “Asp”– 29

Number ten in the PDC Ranking, the “Asp” is one of our five young talents. He began his quick rise by playing in the PDC Development and Challenge Tour events in 2012. His first major victory was conquered in the UK Open in March 2019. Only four months after this victory, Aspinall managed to double his televised titles by winning the US Darts Masters in Las Vegas. One of the most promising young stars, he has reached twice the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship and MansionBet ranks him as a 16/1 shot (5th favorite) to win the 2021 tournament. Aspinall certainly has many years ahead to impress and engage us with his darts prowess.

Dimitri Van den Bergh – 26

This up-and-coming young talent arriving from Antwerp, Belgium, had already won a series of competitions in junior championships between 2013 and 2016. Currently ranking 5 in the PDC’s World Ranking, Van den Bergh is aptly nicknamed “the Dream Maker”. Since 2014 when he joined the ProTour, Dimitri has shown his talent through a bunch of wins and runs in various competitions, including three titles in the Development Tour and a participation in the World Series final at the 2018 German Darts Masters, where he finally lost against Mensur Suljovic. His most impressive victory up till now is the one in the World Matchplay final where he had to defeat Nathan Aspinall, Joe Cullen, Adrian Lewis, Glen Durrant, and Gary Anderson to get the trophy.

Keegan Brown – 27

A native of the Isle of Wight, Keegan Brown is a former youth world champion. He has been a regular in various competitions, showing an interesting potential but no impressive results in major tournaments for the moment. He has joined the PDC Order of Merit in 2019. This should give him the opportunity to shine brighter as it gives Keegan direct entry into tournaments by skipping the qualifiers. It’s clear that Brown has skills and that he has passion. Still, there’s a little something missing that he needs to find and use to get to the top. Let’s hope he’ll do just that in the years ahead!

Luke Humphries – 25

“Cool Hand Luke” seems to be one of the rising stars with the highest potential. With an exciting game and a maturity above his age, Humphries has already reached two consecutive quarter-finals at the PDC World Championship and proven that he can be a real challenger in the Premier League. If for the moment Luke is ranking below some of his fellow young talents, there’s no doubt he has what it takes to reach the top in the following years.

Steve Lennon – 26

The last young talent to round up the list is the Irish player, Steve Lennon. Currently ranking number 44 in the world, Lennon has made it to the Final in the World Cup of Darts in 2019. In the short time since he has joined the PDC, “The Shamrock” has proven his skills with a string of steady performances in the most important ranking competitions. Alongside Keane Barry and William O’Connor, he’s a part of a new wave of Irish players to follow.

Whether you’re as young as these top darters or a senior player by now, we hope this post has inspired you to continuously improve your game. Don’t forget that we’ve also got all the darts gear you might need to up your game and, maybe, one day, join the ranks of professionals.
